XP engagement

Levels reward members who have been around for a long time. These features give everyone something to aim for this week:

• Recaps & champions: a weekly and/or monthly post of the top members, and a champion role for #1.
• Reputation: members thank each other with /rep give, which can come with XP.
• Quests: three daily and three weekly goals with XP rewards, the same for everyone.
• Achievements: badges for milestones, each with an XP reward.

Each one is off until you turn it on. Everything runs on UTC time, like XP bonus drops.

Before you start#

• The XP system must be on. While it's off, none of these features run.
• Setting them up needs Manage Server. Members can use /rep, /quests, /achievements and /xp leaderboard without any special permission.
• Buddy needs View Channel, Send Messages and Embed Links in the recap and achievement channels. To hand out champion roles, it needs Manage Roles, and its own role must be above the champion roles.

Set it up#

Run /xpengagement (or /xp engagement) to open the panel. Only you can see it, and every change saves straight away. Use Choose a section at the top to switch pages: Recaps & champions, Reputation, Quests and Achievements.

Recaps & champions#

Buddy keeps track of the XP each member earns per week and per month. Members can check the standings any time with /xp leaderboard period:This week (or This month, Last week, Last month).

• Weekly recap posts the top members of the week that just ended, every Monday at 00:00 UTC.
• Monthly recap posts the top members of the month that just ended, on the 1st at 00:00 UTC.
• Recap channel is where recaps go. Leave it empty to use the XP level-up channel. If neither is set, no recap is posted (the champion role is still given).
• Members shown sets how many members are in each recap (3–10).
• Weekly champion role / Monthly champion role (optional) go to #1 when the recap posts, and are taken from the previous champion.
• Preview this week shows you the standings so far, privately.

Turning a recap on doesn't post the last week or month straight away. The first recap comes at the end of the current week or month. Recaps don't ping anyone.

Reputation#

Members give rep to someone who helped them with /rep give user:@member reason:…, or by right-clicking the member and choosing Apps → Give Rep. Buddy posts the thank-you in the channel and pings only the member who got the rep.

• XP per rep: XP the member gets for each rep (0–1000, 0 = none). Members on an XP blacklist role or in a blacklisted channel still get the rep, but no XP.
• Rep per member per day: how many rep each member can give in 24 hours (1–10).
• Days before repping the same member again: stops two members trading rep back and forth (0 = no limit).
• Minimum account age and Minimum time in the server: new accounts and new members can't give rep until they're old enough. This stops alt accounts.

Nobody can give rep to themselves or to bots. /rep check [user] shows a member's rep and rank, and /rep leaderboard shows the top 10.

Quests#

Each UTC day and each week (Monday to Sunday), Buddy picks three quests from the quest types you have on. Every member gets the same quests. Members see them, with progress bars, in /quests (only they can see it), and press Claim rewards to collect the XP for finished quests.

• Difficulty picks the column above.
• XP per daily quest and XP per weekly quest are the reward for each quest.
• All-done bonus is extra XP for finishing all of a day's quests. Finishing all the week's quests gives three times that.
• Drop quests only appear while bonus drops are on, and rep quests only while reputation is on. Keep at least one quest type on.

Only messages that earn XP count, so spamming during the XP cooldown doesn't help. Rewards must be claimed before the day or week resets.

Achievements#

There are 21 achievements in three tiers (🥉 Bronze, 🥈 Silver, 🥇 Gold) for total messages, time in voice, level, bonus drops claimed, drop claim streaks, rep received, quests completed and champion wins. Members see what they've unlocked, and what's closest, with /achievements [user].

• Bronze XP, Silver XP and Gold XP: the XP each unlock gives.
• Announcement channel: where unlocks are announced. Leave it empty to use the XP level-up channel. With neither, unlocks are still recorded and rewarded, just not announced.
• Ping members on unlock: mention members in the announcement.

Buddy checks for new unlocks every 5 minutes. When you turn achievements on, the first check quietly records everything members have already earned. That first pass gives no XP and posts nothing, so your channel isn't flooded. From then on, each new unlock gives XP and is announced.

Troubleshooting#

No recap was posted#

• Weekly recap or Monthly recap must be on, and the XP system too.
• Set a Recap channel (or a level-up channel) where Buddy can send messages and embeds.
• A recap is skipped when nobody earned XP that week or month.
• The first recap comes at the end of the week or month in which you turned it on.

The champion role wasn't given#

Buddy needs Manage Roles, and its highest role must be above the champion role. Roles with Administrator, Manage Server or Manage Roles can't be used.

"You've given all your rep for today"#

Each member can give Rep per member per day rep in any 24 hours. The message says when you can give more.

A quest isn't moving#

Only messages that earn XP count. Messages sent during the XP cooldown, in blacklisted channels or too short to earn XP don't. Voice time only counts while you can earn voice XP (not deafened).

Achievements don't unlock#

Unlocks can take up to 5 minutes to show up. Right after you turn achievements on, existing members' unlocks are recorded without XP or an announcement.
