Daily activity report
Get a daily summary embed of yesterday's joins, leaves, net change, messages, active chatters, voice users and voice minutes in a channel you choose.
On this page
The daily activity report is a quick health check for your server. Once a day Buddy posts a summary of the previous day: how many people joined and left, how many messages were sent, how many members chatted or hopped into voice, and your total member count. Post it in a staff channel and you'll spot quiet days, raids and growth spurts at a glance.
Before you start#
Pick a staff-only channel, such as #staff-stats. The report is meant for your team, not members.
Set it up#
It's under Welcome & onboarding in the sidebar.
In Daily summary post, pick a Report channel.
Pick an hour in Post time. The page shows Discord Buddy server time right now so you can work out the right hour (see below).
Click Save report settings. The first report posts the next time that hour comes around on the server clock. If you pick the current hour, it can post within about 5 minutes.
To turn the report off, set Report channel back to Disabled - Select Channel to Enable and save.
Set it up from Discord#
Run /setup feature:Daily Activity Report (or /setup → Welcome & onboarding → Edit next
to Daily activity report). Pick the Report channel and a Post time. The panel shows
Buddy's server time right now, so you can pick the hour that matches your morning. If you pick a
channel without a post time, the report goes out at 9:00 AM Buddy server time.
Settings explained#
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Report channel | Where the report is posted. Activity is only tracked while a channel is selected. | Disabled |
| Post time | The hour the report is posted, by Discord Buddy's server clock. | 12:00 AM (Server Time) |
Picking the right hour#
Post time uses the Discord Buddy database server's clock, not your own timezone or your Discord server's. The settings page shows the current server time, for example 2:15 PM.
To post at 9 AM your time, compare the two clocks. If the page says it's 2:15 PM while it's 9:15 AM where you are, the server is 5 hours ahead, so choose 2:00 PM (Server Time).
"Yesterday" in the report is also measured by that same clock: each report covers the full previous day from midnight to midnight, server time.
What's in the report#
| Field | What it counts |
|---|---|
| 📥 Members Joined | People who joined yesterday (bots aren't counted) |
| 📤 Members Left | People who left, were kicked or were banned yesterday (bots aren't counted) |
| 📈 Net Change | Joined minus left, for example +3 or -2 |
| 💬 Messages Sent | Messages sent by members in your server (bot messages aren't counted) |
| 🗣️ Members Chatted | How many different members sent at least one message |
| 🔊 Members in VC | How many different members joined a voice channel |
| ⏱️ Voice Minutes | Total time members spent in voice, counted when they leave the voice channel |
| 👥 Total Members | Your member count after the last join or leave of the day (bots included, like Discord's own count) |
The report posts once per day. If Discord has a hiccup when it's due, Buddy retries a few minutes later within the same hour, and it never posts twice for the same day.
Buddy only counts activity while a report channel is selected. The first report after you turn it on (or back on) says Partial because it only covers part of the day.
Examples#
What your staff see each day:
Troubleshooting#
The report never posts#
- Check a Report channel is selected and you clicked Save report settings.
- Give Buddy View Channel, Send Messages and Embed Links in that channel. If Buddy can't see or post in it, Missing Permissions: Send Messages shows under Daily Activity Report in the Bot errors list on your dashboard's main Dashboard page. A deleted channel shows as Channel Not Found there too.
- Without Embed Links, Buddy posts a plain-text version of the report instead and lists Missing Permissions: Embed Links under Daily Activity Report in Bot errors. Grant Embed Links to get the full embed.
- Wait for the hour you picked to come around on the server clock. If you picked the current hour after the report was already sent today, it posts tomorrow.
It posts at the wrong time#
Post time is Discord Buddy's server time. Compare the Discord Buddy server time right now line on the settings page with your own clock and adjust the hour.
The numbers look low#
- The first report is partial. Give it a full day.
- Activity isn't counted while the report is turned off.
- Voice minutes are added when someone leaves voice, so a long session that runs past midnight counts toward the day it ended.
