The server listing is your public profile in the Discord Buddy server directory. Once it's
on, your server gets its own profile page, shows up in search, on its category page and on a page for
every tag you add, and people can join with one click. Bumping with /bump pushes it back to the top
of the default "Recently bumped" order.
Before you start#
You need a permanent invite link. Without one your server is never listed, even with the listing
switched on. In Discord, open Invite People on any channel, click Edit invite link, set
Expire after to Never and Max number of uses to No limit, then copy the
https://discord.gg/... link.
Point the invite at a welcoming channel like #welcome or #rules, not a busy chat channel. It's
the first thing new people see.
Set it up#
It's under Growth in the sidebar.
In Public listing, set Show in directory to Enabled and paste your permanent link into Invite link. A green check appears next to a valid link; a red cross and an error mean it was rejected and the save button is disabled until you fix it.
In Listing details, pick a Category, write a Short description (up to 120 characters) and a Full description (up to 2048 characters).
Type a tag in Tags and press Enter after each one. Tags are short keywords like a game name or topic.
In Images, choose a Listing banner and a Profile banner. JPG, PNG or GIF, under 5 MB.
Click Save listing. The page reloads after a few seconds and shows your current banners.
Your profile page lives at /Discord/your-server-name. Find it by searching the
directory for your server's name.
Settings explained#
Public listing#
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Show in directory | Enabled gives your server a public profile page and lists it in search, category and tag pages. Disabled hides the listing; your text and images are kept. | Disabled |
| Invite link | The link behind every Join button. Must be a Discord invite, e.g. https://discord.gg/yourInvite. Required to be listed. Leave it empty to remove it. | Empty |
Listing details#
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Category | The main focus of your server. You appear on that category's page, e.g. /Discords/Category/gaming, and in the breadcrumb on your profile. | None |
| Short description | Up to 120 characters. Shown on your server's card in search results, category and tag pages, under the name on your profile, and as the description search engines show. | Empty |
| Full description | Up to 2048 characters, shown in the About section of your profile page. Line breaks are kept. If empty, Buddy shows your server's own Discord description instead, if it has one. | Empty |
| Tags | Keywords that each get their own browsable page, e.g. /Discords/Tag/minecraft. Your first three tags show on your server card; all of them show on your profile. | None |
The categories you can pick from are Gaming, Community Hub, Hangout & Chill, Study & Learning, Tech & Programming, Content Creators, Music, Anime & Manga, Art & Design, Roleplay and Sports & Fitness.
Images#
Both images are resized to 724 x 400 pixels and saved as PNG, so a GIF won't stay animated.
| Setting | Where it shows |
|---|---|
| Listing banner | On your server's card in the directory. Servers without one get a default image. |
| Profile banner | Across the top of your profile page. If you don't upload one, your listing banner is used there instead. |
Bad words in your descriptions and tags are filtered automatically when you save.
What else appears on your listing#
Some details come straight from Discord, not from the dashboard:
- Server name and icon from your Discord server.
- Member count, kept up to date as people join and leave.
- Language, from your server's primary language in Discord's Community settings. Visitors can filter the directory by language, and each language has its own page, e.g.
/Discords/Language/de. - Verified badge for servers with Discord Buddy Premium. Visitors can tick Verified only to see just those servers.
- Last bumped date and Profile views in the Server details panel.
Bumping#
/bump moves your server to the top of the directory's default sort, Recently bumped. That
order is used on the main directory, every category, tag and language page, the "Recently bumped"
list on the Discord Buddy home page, and the "Similar servers" section of other profiles. Each bump
also adds to your server's total bump count.
/bump EveryoneBumps Current Server Up the Discords Server List on Discord-Buddy.com.
There are two cooldowns, and both must be ready:
| Cooldown | Free | With Premium |
|---|---|---|
| Server: how often anyone can bump this server | Once every 2 hours | Shorter, depending on the server's plan |
| User: how often one person can bump (counted across every server they bump) | Once every 30 minutes | Shorter, depending on the user's plan |
If a cooldown is still running, Buddy replies privately with the time left on each one, so nothing is posted in the channel.
Bumping only helps while you're near the top, so regular bumps beat a burst of them. Pick a
#bump channel, pin a reminder, and ask a few regulars to bump when the server cooldown is ready.
You could also add a timed message that reminds people.
Your public profile page#
Visitors to /Discord/your-server see:
- Join server (and Join on your card), opening your invite link.
- Share, with Copy link and buttons for X, Facebook and Reddit.
- About, your full description.
- Ratings & reviews. Logged-in visitors can leave one review per server with a 1–5 star rating, then edit or delete it later. Others can reply to a review or Report it to the Discord Buddy team.
- Tags, each linking to its tag page.
- Similar servers: up to six other listed servers that share your category or one of your first three tags, most recently bumped first.
- Ban appeal, only for logged-in people who are currently banned from your server, and only if you've turned on ban appeals.
- Report this listing, for logged-in visitors to flag spam, broken invites or unsafe content.
Listing reports are reviewed by Discord Buddy's own moderators, not your staff. They can edit your short description or invite link, disable the listing (turning Show in directory off), or remove it. Keep your listing within our guidelines and make sure your invite works.
Examples#
Writing a listing that gets clicks#
Your Short description does most of the work, because it's what people read on the server card before deciding to click. A few things that help:
- Lead with what people do there, not with "Welcome to our server". Say the game, topic or vibe in the first few words.
- Be specific. "Chill Minecraft survival server with weekly build contests" beats "Fun gaming community for everyone".
- Give a reason to join now: events, a friendly size, active voice chat, a helpful community.
- Put your best tags first. Only the first three appear on your card. Use words people actually search for, like the game's name.
- Use a bright, readable listing banner. It's the biggest thing on your card. Avoid tiny text; it's shown small.
A short description (under 120 characters):
Chill Minecraft survival with weekly build contests, voice hangouts and a friendly 16+ crew. New players welcome!A full description:
Pinecrest is a laid-back Minecraft survival community that's been running since 2023.
What we do:
- Weekly build contests with Nitro prizes
- Seasonal map resets and server events
- Voice hangouts most evenings (EU and US)
- A help channel for redstone, farms and mods
We're 16+, active every day and we keep things friendly. Read #rules, grab your roles and say hi!Tags: minecraft, survival, building, voice chat, events.
Premium#
- Shorter bump cooldowns. Premium servers can be bumped more often, and Premium users can bump more often across all servers. See Premium for each plan's limits.
- Verified badge on your card and profile, and a spot in Verified only results.
Troubleshooting#
My server doesn't show in the directory#
- Show in directory must be Enabled, and you must click Save listing.
- You need an Invite link. Listings without one are never shown.
- If you were reported, the Discord Buddy team may have disabled the listing. Turn Show in directory back on after fixing the problem, or contact support.
- Browsing a category or tag? Check you picked that Category or added that exact tag.
"Server invite must be a Discord invite link"#
Paste the full link, starting with https://, for example https://discord.gg/abc123. Vanity links
work too if you use the full https://discord.gg/yourname form. Links to other websites aren't accepted.
The Join button says the invite is invalid#
Your invite expired or was deleted, or it had a use limit. Create a new one that never expires with no max uses, paste it into Invite link and save.
My banner didn't change#
Use a JPG, PNG or GIF under 5 MB. After saving, the page reloads after a few seconds. If your browser still shows the old image, refresh the page.
/bump says I'm on cooldown#
Both cooldowns must be ready. The reply tells you how long is left on the server and user cooldowns. The user cooldown follows you across servers, so bumping another server also starts it.
The member count or language is wrong#
They come from Discord. The member count updates when people join or leave. The language is your server's primary language in Discord's Server Settings → Community → Overview.
